Optimal Carrier Blueprint Ratios
Posted: 2012-11-15 Filed under: eveonline, industry, ships | Tags: archon, chimera, nidhoggur, thanatos 6 CommentsCarriers use a lot of Drone bays, especially the mighty Thanatos. This large requirement leads to a bottleneck in production so I wanted to know the optimal number of Drone Bay blueprints needed to remove this problem.
Using a ME2 Thanatos BPO, I found the optimal ratio of blueprints needed to complete the construction of Capital parts needed for one carrier in around 5.9 days.
Having 6 Carrier Drone blueprints removes the Drone Bay bottleneck and pushes that problem onto 3 other components. I started to adjust the other components to shift the bottleneck around, but it just seems to increase the same radio of problematic blueprints. From my work it seems that the 1:6 Drone ratio is the simplest ratio.
Carrier Production Using Compression
Posted: 2012-11-06 Filed under: industry, ships | Tags: archon, chimera, isogen, megacyte, mexallon, nidhoggur, nocxium, pyerite, thanatos, tritanium, zydrine 10 CommentsJump capable ships have a fairly easy production workflow; common minerals are made into capital components that then get combined into the ship hull. There is no invention process, no reliance on moon reactants, or even a multistage reaction process like Tech3 hull/subsystem production.
The con to the production process is that there is a high barrier of entry and a ISK sink into blueprints. I estimate that I moved around 30 B into BPOs and starter minerals to begin producing the 4 racial carriers.
My first stage is to start up Carrier production, which is coming along nicely. Carrier blueprints have been purchased, researched Tech 1 module blueprints that are mineral compression friendly were bought on contracts, a highsec compression office was rented, and a cyno chain to the production system was mapped out.
The second stage of the plan is to eventually expand into Dreadnought production, which require a few more Capital Component BPOs. Once I start to sell Carrier hulls and Capital modules, I’ll move more ISK into blueprints for these heavy hitters.
The initial purchase was for a researched set (ME 100/PE 20) of every Carrier Capital Component, 4 Racial Carriers, Fighters, and Capital Module BPOs.
Using the magic of mineral compression, I transported 206,500 m3 of modules and produced 1,608,535 m3 of minerals after the refine process. The modules’ volume was only 12.8% of the expanded mineral size.
Here’s a screenshot of my Industry Dashboard that I built in my Wallet Manager program to help keep track of all the different jobs bring run by different characters in various locations.
This pane helps keeps a nice overview of the manufacturing and research process, which I can bring up on a computer, mobile, or even a tablet device.
September Financial Report

Despite my lack of play time the past month due to a new family addition, I still am outperforming my linear trend.
Time invested in trading as fallen to 4-5 hours/week and Tech2 invention/production is much lower, around 1 hour/week.
The large jump in net value in August was due to a move to speculate on mining barge BPO changes.
Bold Modes
Despite the slow sell rate, speculation on Procurer BPOs during the Inferno 1.2 patch turned out to double my ISK investment.
Initial Speculation Research
Speculation Results
Expanding Production
I’ve regained interest in producing Carrier and Dreadnought class ships so I’ve invested 15 B into BPOs for capital parts along with a few select BPO/BPCs for mineral compression.
My initial build will be 8x Carriers (2 Racial) and then see how fast each type moves. The initial quantity of minerals needed for this build came out to 11.7 B.
I’m planning on Carrier/Dreadnought production to be a slow turnover, yet steady income stream. I’ve watched Eve-Fail grow into a full fledged Capital production line and have been inspired to follow his lead.
Winter Expansion Opportunities
New ships are usually highly profitable so I look forward to the new ORE frigate and destroyer ships.
Industry Dashboards
Posted: 2012-08-06 Filed under: eveonline, industry, pos, screenshot | Tags: ccp punkturis, csm, csm7, kpi, PI, tech 2, thanatos, ui 5 CommentsI’ve spent a lot of time designing API driven KPI style dashboards for my industrial operations and given the industry changes coming as detailed in the Summer 2012 CSM7 minutes, I want to share my designs to (hopefully) inspire people for upcoming Winter expansion (I wonder if CCP’ers read this blog).
My mission statement with these was to use a clean, elegant format to give a high level display into my industry operations while using Eve icons and market prices. I should be able to tell the materials and price/profit for items at a glance without referring to other menus, applications, or looking up historical prices.
Industry Jobs
The below shot is active industry jobs. I want to know what is being used, who is using it, current and future ME/PE/Copy numbers, and a pretty display for the job progress.
Another dashboard that I created was capital jobs only. Since these jobs were so long, I wanted to be able to see them progress on a calendar. This has allowed me to keep idle blueprints busy and schedule large-scale builds since capital jobs require large amounts of minerals.
Though the current Eve client does display industry jobs, I find it to be inelegant.
The information displayed is all text, almost like I was reading a database table. Also, I am constantly switching between filter options as the window does not remember my past settings.
PI
When I experimented with supplementing my POS network with PI items, I wanted to be able to display my PI network. I needed to know who owned the item, what is was producing, the output quantity, and how much ISK/day that operation was making.
Additionally, I did some work with the database table for PI items (wonderful self-referencing table) to show me what items up the PI T0 to T3 tree I can currently make given what I am extracting. The page ends up being quite long as it displays all tiers so I cropped this shot after T2. The red marks next to the T1 items mean that I don’t have the T1 items in stock so I can’t make the resultant T2 item.
This is a great example of my ‘high level’ approach. I can now easily answer the question of “can I make Robotics?”. No, I need to be making this at T1 and this at T2. I don’t have to spend time looking at blueprints and their requirements — no additional pages or reference material.
Tech 2 Production
Tech 2 manufacturing can get quite complicated. I was spending a lot of time checking what I had in stock, the build requirements, and final costs. This page gives me the ability to simply move a blueprint from the left column (stock) to the right (build queue) and it queries the database to display everything that I need to make that item.
Multiple blueprints can be added to the queue and materials are aggregated together. This allowed me to place all my blueprints in a queue and create a shopping list of things I need to create the run.
Capital Production
The same story continues for capital ships. I can select my BPO/BPC, the ME level, the character producing it, and the production station. When the location is picked the bottom panes pull from the assets and tell me what I have in stock and what I need in order to complete the job.
Industry Advancement
I want to see a reduction in the amount of clicks and an increase in the amount of user feedback and intelligence given to the user. The displays should not just be a simple static display. They should be more dynamic — pull from your inventory when you select a production system and tell me what I need, display a build quote that doesn’t require me to have all the items or know their build requirements, and use the new Inferno universal market price for items.
Nyx Beauty Shots
Posted: 2012-07-06 Filed under: eveonline, screenshot | Tags: corpum, corpus, nyx, sisi, thanatos 4 CommentsI’ve wanted to fly a Nyx since I started playing Eve as I find it to be the best looking ship in the game. It commands respect. I now have the ISK and an almost maxed out Thanatos character to pilot it, but I don’t want to put my main character in a space coffin.
This week Supercapitals and Titans were seeded on the test server. If you have the skills, you can buy a hull for the 100.00 ISK seed price. I was even able to put an deadspace tank on the ship as the Corpum/Corpus modules are also seeded.
