Carrier Bounce
Posted: 2009-11-12 Filed under: ships | Tags: capital, carrier, gank, ships 13 CommentsWe had an encounter with a rather large T3/T2 fleet from Black-Wing (B-W) Corporation this week in WH space that resulted in two Hulks and a Carrier loss.
For a number of hours, we had been mining a 150,000 unit Crokite roid. For those of you that don’t know, a 150 K unit roid is rather large. In order to not bounce off of it, you have to warp to 20 K away.
Our Carrier pilot wanted to have some fun so he warped the Carrier to 0 on the roid. This resulted in the Carrier coming out of warp inside the roid and bouncing away at 5,000 m/s.
Just as the Carrier was starting to slow down, Combat probes showed up on the directional scanner.

Black-Wing had a good scanning crew and were on top of us within 40 seconds and caught us in a moment of vulnerability. We were able to get 3 out of 5 Hulks back to the POS before the Phobos bubble was up. To our dismay, the bubble trapped two Hulks and the Chimera Carrier.

Chimera Under Attack
The Hulks were destroyed within a few seconds and then they started to work on the Carrier. We counted 11 T2/T3 ships that assaulted the Carrier. After some smacktalk in local, and a threat to take down our POS, or Carrier pilot began his self-destruct sequence so they would not get a Carrier killmail.
*BOOM*, Self-destruct.
After a few minutes, we saw the T2/T3 fleet go off directional and a salvage crew arrive on-site to salvage the Carrier and Hulks wrecks.
The lesson? It is ok to play with your capitals (if you insure them).

T3 PvP
Posted: 2009-11-04 Filed under: ships | Tags: carrier, gank, pvp 5 CommentsA Legion and Tengu entered our C5 system and logged off at some point unnoticed by any of our pilots. When my WH partners came online one afternoon after downtime and started mining, the T3 ships attacked; 2 Hulks down. Later in the day, I thought the system was clear so I started mining; 1 more Hulk down.
At this point the damage was 3 Hulks, so around 300 M in damage.
A corpmate scanned down an exit to empire and found that our C5 linked to a C2 with friendlies, who had a direct link to Amarr. We got a lot of compressed ore, C320, and C540 gas out to market.
We talked about getting the Orca back in WH space from Amarr with new Hulks, fuel, and mods. We took a defensive approach to the Orca move and fleeted up to camp the WHs. A Dominix, Raven, Apocalypse, Typhoon, Prophecy, and Wolf camped the WHs as the Orca moved back to the POS.
As the Orca finished the jumps from Amarr into the C2, and finally from the C2 into our C5, a Tengu appeared 186 K off of the C2 Amarr WH.

We had a good force, so we decided to engage. Once the Tengu got some fire on it, a Legion and Megathron came online to defend it. We took a beating and lost around half our fleet with no losses to the T3/Megathron fleet.
We retreated into our C5 and the WH linking to the C2 closed behind the T3/Megathron force. We warped to our POS and then sat quiet for a few minutes. The Tengu pilot started to talk in local.

They were trapped!
After some more talk in local, we learned that they have been scouting us out for a few days and were staying logged off in our system. They waited for us to start mining and then warped to the Gravmetric site we were working on to gank us. Easily done as we only had 1 active Gravmetric site.
We agreed on the price of 500 M for scanning down a new exit after we had another round of PvP. They agreed and we selected a planet.
1x Tengu
1x Legion
1x Megathronvs.
1x Chimera (Caldari Carrier)
2x DPS Typhoon
1x Tackle Taranis
1x Dominix fitted for Remote Repping
We got the Megathron down first and then worked on the Legion. Soon only the Tengu was left and it had one amazing tank. It was successfully tanking 8x Carrier Fighters, 2x Typhoon, 5x Ogre I’s, and other smaller drones. We were not able to break the tank, so we congratulated the Tengu pilot and let him warp off.

We got 250 M for scanning down the C2 WH and another 250 M for the empire link. After salvaging and looting the wrecks, which were full of Faction gear, we came out ahead in the fight.
I lost a Hulk and a rigged Dominix and managed to net 100 M. Not a bad day in WH space.
1.22 B Jita Gank
Posted: 2009-10-28 Filed under: ships | Tags: gank, mining, profit, ships 12 CommentsA week’s worth of WH mining exploded outside 4-4 in Jita last week under the guns of a ganking Hyperion.
ISK Dropped: 1.137 B
Hauler ISK Value: 83.8 M
Killmail (Battleclinic.com)
A recent Eve forum post got me thinking about better hauling tactics and how to deal with passive cargo scanning gank ships. From now on, I am not going to haul anything more than 400-500 M in one trip and I will load up the minerals in Giant Secure Containers.
What are some of your hauling tactics?
Wormhole Woes

We have lost ships, my main WH partner is stuck in Empire, a corpmate has lost ships, and I have had to learn how to scan down signatures with my less than perfect scanning skills.
Tuesday 13:51 Eve Time
My WH partner and I had an Orca, 2x Hulks, and a Retriever on a Core site when a gang of hostiles came into the system. A Vexor, Dominix, Anathema and a Phobos bubble us and pod us.
After waking up in Empire in a fresh clone, I headed off to Jita to refit. Some 180 M later, I am on my way back to my home base system in the Essence region. I check up on some jobs, trends on the Empire markets and consolidate some goods from neighboring systems.
Tuesday 15:00 Eve Time
A blue in a neighboring C5 system found my corpmate in our C5. Since my corpmate does not have good scanning abilities, he offers to help us find a way out. After a few hours of scanning, they found a route.
C5 (us) -> C5 (empty) -> C4 (empty) -> C3 (idle Frigates) -> Lowsec Empire exit. I get my main and alt back in WH space, but my WH partner misses the C3 -> C4 connection as he tried the route a few hours after I got in.
Wednesday 13:00 Eve Time
Start scanning our C5 with my main character. After 2.5 hours of scanning, I finally find a route out. C5 -> C5 (empty) -> C4 (abandoned Frigate) -> C3 (abandoned 2x Mobile Small Warp Disruptor I‘s) -> C3 (idle Frigate) -> Lowsec Empire.
This was my first adventure on WH space scanning all on my own. It was up to me to find a route out since I was the only one left with some scanning skills.
I don’t have scanning skills trained up to an effective level; I had to get signatures down to 0.25 AU or 1 AU in order for them to finally come up as green which took a lot more effort than what I have heard from my WH partner who has invented in scanning skills. For now I’ve put Gallente Battleship V on hold in favor of:
- Astrometrics IV
- Astrometric Pinpointing I
- Astrometric Pinpointing II
- Astrometric Pinpointing III
- Astrometric Rangefinding III
- Astrometric Rangefinding IV
- Astrometric Pinpointing IV
With Astrometrics at III and Astrometric Rangefinding at II, I am having quicker success when pinning down signatures than I did a few days ago when these skills were not trained. I have also added 2x Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I’s to my Helios, which increase Scan Strength +10% with no stacking penalty, for improved scanning speed.
Thursday 2:00 Eve Time
A K162 opens up into our system and in comes a Wolf (Minmatar Assault Ship). Out of no where it ganks one of my corpmates and he looses a Mining Barge and ends up back in Empire. I found out that he came from C5 (us) -> C4 (empty) -> C5 (did not explore).
Not a good few days in WH space.
Well, tomorrow is another day. My goals are to get my WH partner in our C5, haul in some more fuel and some spare Hulks.
Every New C5 Comes with a Nullsec Gank
Posted: 2009-08-25 Filed under: wormhole | Tags: c5, gank, pos, wormhole Leave a commentA corpmate and I moved from a dead C4 into a new, shiny C5 after a few days of waiting and scanning. Our move operation is pretty standard and down to a routine. We like to setup a small POS first, then bring our Large POS with defenses.
So our migration routine is as follows:
- Scout, bring hauler with Small POS into new WH space.
- Online small POS with BS protection.
- Move industry and probing ships into small POS force field.
- Setup Corporate Hangar Array in small POS and move goods.
Once this is completed, we setup the Large POS with defenses and repeat the migration process.
As I started to bring the defenses online at the Large POS, in came a Helios (Covert Ops Ships) through a lowsec WH from OKEO-X in the Omist region which is deep in Atlas Alliance territory. I started to get a little worried as I knew the POS locations were getting pinned down.
Should I online the guns, or get the rest of the mods/ammo out of the Corporate Hanger Array in the small POS? I tried to do both, warping back and forth, but after a few minutes a saw a HAC and a BS enter.

Putting defenses online
After 5 minutes, the system had a total of 15 attackers in it including a Drake, 2x Hurricane, 2x Helios, 2x Ishtar, Tempest, 2x Phobos, Zealot, and a Armageddon. I knew there was some scanning, bubble and DPS power in that gang. I got in my interceptor and warped to the small POS, knowing that they could have positioned a bubble in my path of travel. I arrived to see their gang shooting at the small POS and bringing it into reinforced mode within a half an hour.
Once I got the evemail alert that the POS was in reinforced mode, the attacking gang suddenly left within a matter of minutes. We had put enough Strontium Clathrates in the Small POS that the reinforce time came out to be 1 Day 8 Hours. I think the gang realized that they didn’t want to offline in WH space and finish the job later, knowing that they were seeing Cruise Missle Batteries being anchored at the Large POS as they attacked the Small POS and that they were most likely not going to get a Omist WH spawn tomorrow.
