Stackable Blueprints

When I started doing industry jobs, I found it very annoying to constantly look up the item details for each blueprint and I often lost my BPOs in a sea of BPCs.

After looking on the forums, I found that many people were asking for a icon change. CCP’s response was that their look-up query for blueprints was very database heavy (costs a lot of resources) and there would need to be some major reworking of their database structure and query code to give the client the ability to quickly differentiate blueprints.

Here I was in 2008 getting annoyed while I found forum posts dating back to 2004 asking for this change!

With Incursion 1.5 (May 2011), the icon change for BPO/BPCs hit Tranquility and I rejoiced because my industrial life was forever changed. Simple change with a large impact. I believe than when they transitioned to 64-bit numbers for items, some work was done to rectify the database query and code was cleaned up.

I would like to rally all industry people for another change. For any person that does industry, you work with a large number of blueprints. I would love if there was the ability to stack items of similar ME/PE.

Here is a mock-up of two versions of stacking for blueprints:

The version on the left seems to be easier on the eye as the information is displayed in a banner format at the top.

CCP, here is your Agile user story:

As a person that performs industry jobs, having a way to organize a large numbers of blueprints would declutter the UI and simplify working with them.

Put that in your backlog and work it into a Sprint planning meeting.

Vanguard Incursion Farming

For an excellent guide on the methods for running Incursions, review Jester’s Introduction to Incursions Part 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Given that I have Logistics V, Caldari Cruiser V, Shield/Energy Emission Systems V, and Multitasking IV, I found my way into an Incursion fleet running a Basilisk for a Shield fleet. I had Monday off and took the time to grind out Vanguard sites for stupid amounts of ISK. Our average was a little low due to members changing ships, but we still managed to pull in 93 M/hour.

My impressions of Incursions sites is that they are very formulaic. As a Logistics pilot, here are the steps to complete a Vanguard site in 4-6 minutes if you have the proper fleet composition:

  1. Get on voice comms. This is so you can talk about how easy Vanguard sites are and how rich you are becoming every 4-6 minutes. In actuality, you will use voice comms to yell at Logistic pilots if they are not paying attention or if someone deviated from the prescribed kill order and triggered the next wave.
  2. Anchor warps in to the site first which is usually your FC.
  3. Everyone else warps in, lands.
  4. Orbit the Anchor at 5,000 and lock up all your friends.
  5. Watch to see who got aggression first and start repping them.
  6. Before the site is finished, the FC will post an align to the next site. Active align.
  7. Site ends and rats despawn, fleetwarp to the next one.
  8. Go to step 2 and repeat.

I do agree that a change should be made to the risk/reward of Vanguard sites. Different waves, site types, and perhaps lengthening the time it takes for Vanguard sites seem reasonable in order to increase the amount of effort for the ISK.

Crucible Glamor Shots

The nebula rework that came in the Crucible expansion is very breathtaking. It ads such an amazing feel of location to the universe. Traveling from The Forge to Gallente space near Cloud Ring really gives me a sense of  locational awareness.

Another effect that has really impressed me is the miss animation of weapons. Fighting Amarr ships has never looked so good! Enjoy the 1680 x1028 goodness.

Not the Olive Branch I Expected

As primarily an industrialist, I don’t have a large array of skills placed into Gunnery, Missile Launcher Operation, or rusty buckets such as the Maelstrom Battleship. I can, however, pilot a T2 fit Hurricane. With Triathlon season over and my Swimming team on winter break, I had time to fly in the current CFC Branch Campaign. (Side note: check out this thread and see if you can find me).

A call for Alphafleet came out on comms and I suited up in my Hurricane.

After staging we were out running around Branch and blowing up towers. Our FC for a fleet of about 100 was calm and collected. I can’t tell you how much I do not enjoy FCs that yell and spam commands, “GO GO GO GO LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK PRIMARY BLAKE PRIMARY BLAKE PRIMARY BLAKE”. I really only want to hear the order twice for clarity.

Jokes were had, outlandish pictures were posted in local, and while waiting for a a Tower timer, we all started up MS Paint and made drawings of our FC.

Our Maelstroms will blot out the sun!

Eve Font is Almost There

Glorious, stupendous! There is a new font in the development pipeline. Grey Stormshadow has a excellent post with a screenshot summary of the current issues.

To Do:

  1. Kerning and Tracking! Take a look at how the ‘La’ for Large merge into one character.
  2. Increase visibility of commas and periods
  3. Further differentiate ‘Q’ and ‘O’ characters
  4. Reduce overall height
  5. (Personal preference) Use a horizontal bar in the the zero character and not a diagonal one. I’m finding that looking at 100,000 to be very distracting when you have multiple rows of zeros.
