2. Chribba posted a screenshot of his Titan mining operations in lowsec.

3. I gasped at the sov map for a minute before discovering that there was a zero in the name.

4. Endless Space, a 4X turn based space strategy game, has been recieving a lot of my attention over the past month. The Beta is available right now on Steam and patches have been coming out every week or so with balances, new UI elements, and bug fixes.

I’m really interested in this game because the same game format is XML that is compressed in a .bin file. You can uncompress it with 7-Zip and then edit it in Notepad++ to change planet or hero attributes, technologies, global events, or even star system locations. The mentality of the development team is one of openness with the community and they are very active on the forums while polishing up the Beta.

5. I’ve contacted some Tech2 manufactures and have started to buy in bulk. You can generally get 5-10% Jita price, which does nothing but increase your margins.

6. Since I haven’t been actively playing much this month, I put some idle BPOs into copy research for some very passive income. There are idle or low wait empire copy slots, you just have to look for them. Hint: go to lowsec. I just know one of these days I will encounter a smartbomb.

7. To help solidify my claim as a bittervet, I picked up some Anaconda Mines.

8. I have an itch for a large scale public investment project, but lack any type of formal finance training. I wish Eve had a stock market so people could invest in my trading and manufacturing operation. I don’t have any idea of where to start, what the payout would be, or how to manage risk when you start to work with other people’s money; I would not want to be Eve Bank 2.0.

Industry and Trading Matrix

Numbers > Words

If you can’t tell, I’m a very quantifiable person. Using numbers to guide decisions is a method of problem solving that I have cultivated as my professional career has grown.

I remember this one particular insiadent that really stood out where the numbers really proved valuable.

A few years ago when a group of difficult C-level people were up for a laptop refresh, I sent them a simple survey with a list of considerations for their new machines. Each person had rate weight, speed, storage capacity, ruggedness, maximum resolution, monitor size, etc on a scale of 1-3 (3 being the highest priority).

I then took these results and found the general need of the group. The data told me what machine to buy. I wan’t trying to tailor a machine to their needs, their needs dictated the selection. No fights were had when the machines arrived because they all knew that I had properly weighed everyone’s opinions.

To the Spreadsheets!

Since I have performed a number of industry and trading activities in Eve, I felt that the same type of analysis would offer some insight to the greater community.

I made a list of negative and positive factors and applied a value to each of them. The total value has a little bit of logic built into it to help produce a more meaningful result.

Total =(-(Sum all the bad things)+(Sum all the good things))

The English equivalent of this would be something along the line of, “Considering all the bad and good things, what is the best thing I should be doing to make money in Eve?”

(Yes the scale is 1-3, but the sheer amplitude of risk and profitability of Patch Speculation made me weight it with a 4. The external factor of CCP changing a loot table or rebalancing something on the fly is an enormous risk when speculating)

Note that these weights are based on my experiences and therefore you would most likely apply different values to each activity. Just like with the difficult C-level people, getting a larger survey group would help normalize the data and CYA.

What’s In Your Hangar?

I’m following the trend that Rixx Javix started and posting my goods. As mainly a trader and researcher, I don’t feel like I have a large fleet of PVP ships as I try to maintain a lean operation. ISK goes back into trading and manufacturing operations instead of sitting as a rusting Minmatar hull in a hangar.

I’ve blanked out the majority of my ship name but I’ll let you know that I name them all after Babylon 5 ship classes.

Trade Alt

This character sits in Jita 4-4 and moves and/or ships items around. I think of this guy as the holding account.

This character is working with around 290 BPOs worth around 13.59 B. I’ve always wanted to be able to produce anything in the game so I bought up the majority of the common module, frigate, and cruiser prints. The only Battlecruiser prints that I own is a set of the Tier3 ones.  I have no intention to ever produce Drakes/Hurricanes due to their small profit margin. I also don’t own any Battleship prints as I like to fly T1/T2 cruiser hulls.

Subcapital Pilot

I’m training this character to fly all four racial Interceptors, Recons, Logistics, and standard BCs. I also have him trained for the standard T2 Alpha Maelstrom because it is such a common request in nullsec fleets.

T2 Alpha Maelstrom Cherry

Out of the spreadsheets and into the fire! I have always been interested in the ebbs and flows of power in nullsec and as such, I have a subcapital character in TEST for participation in the pony giggles.

I saw a Jabber announcement go out for a fleet that worked perfectly for me — after US dinner, before bed.

A lot of firsts happened on this fleet. It was my first official non-kitchen sink/random home defense subcapital fleet, the maiden voyage of my T2 Alpha Maelstrom (finally have Large Projectile Turret V), first time using optimized overview settings, and my first nullsec final blow.

(don’t laugh all you PVP’ers — I’m going to try to do a battle report)

Alpha > Scimitar > Huginn formup in Fountain. 140 in fleet mainly consisting of a Maelstromball with fast tackle support that headed into Delve. We encountered and played catch-up/evade/backtrack with a Nulli Secunda AHAC/T3/Dictor gang of about 100. Now blue’d Pandemic Legion joined us on a few jumps as we played around with the Nulli Secunda gang.

Three major encounters resulted in us blapping their ships as they came through gates while being tailed.

Once we jumped through, our Alpha Maelstroms pulsed MWDs and sat at optimal using Depleted Uranium L (1.2x tracking) ammo while fast tackle stayed on gate to lock down targets.

After a few T3s, some Guardians, and all their Dictor were down, they retreated home while we reinforced a few structures with the help of PL.

This was also my first time using Liberty Prime’s UI Generator settings and I have to say, their standard theme is quite nice.

I was easily able to flip between friendly/hostile/warp points and the color highlighting really helped when identifying targets. I recommend trying this theme out if you have any issues with your current Overview setup.

So watch out, this industrialist is growing teeth!
