Quafe Commemorative Casual Wear

I paid some real world dollars to be able to watch the Eve Fanfest action over the HD stream. It was actually quite enjoyable on the living room television.

When I purchased the HD stream, I quickly clicked through the payment windows and there was some mention about a T-shirt.

Silly me, I thought I was getting a neat Quafe T-shirt in the mail in a few weeks. I checked my apartment building’s package room a few times after Fanfest ended in anticipation of the present and what I actually got were some pixels after I logged into my main character’s account.

Sure, why not? *click* Now I have some digital T-shirts sitting in my hangar.

I suppose that I should hang on to the items since they have gone up in price since they were put in the game.

I am however, left wondinering what this means for the furture of Eve. Are we gradually going to accept the new role that these types of items have in the game? I feel that items like this T-shirt, and especially the free Aurum that was introduced to players via the reward system for uploading content to eveisreal.net, are doing nothing but bringing the Aurum concept into our lexicon.

CCP Incarna Project Manager: People are not on board with the new currency!
Employee: Um, what if we just start giving it away? Perhaps for doing something easy like uploading some content for us?
CCP Incarna Project Manager: Make it go!

Nullsec Industrialization

In Eve we talk a lot about vision. With Dominion, we were going to be brought into a new  era of Nullsec gameplay. Small alliance were going to gain a foothold in space, industrial powers were going to rise, and major conflicts were going to arise over these resources.

Here we are almost two years later and not much has changed in Nullsec. There are major powerblocks controlling the majority of space and conflicts are over a few precious moon types.

I don’t think the vision of Dominion came to be fully actualized. Some major steps were taken, such as removing the POS bowling that had to occur to gain sovereignty and the addition of upgrades with the Infrastructure Hub, but overall the gameplay hasn’t moved forward as far as the vision promised.

People have been talking about the “Independence from Jita” that Nullsec needs and I haven’t seen a concrete plan to reduce the dependance of goods from Highsec.

Here’s a graphical overview of how I see the current flow of Industry:

Industrialists are supposed to be producing all of the goods you PVP types want locally with no reliance on anything from empire. This statement could not be farther from the truth.

Let’s use me as a case study. I’m a industrialist that owns many ship, module, and capital blueprints. I have the ability to produce anything from Cap Rechargers, a Heavy Interdictor, or even a Carrier. All of my production occurs in Highsec/Lowsec. I have three characters that work night and day to produce goods that get shipped off to Nullsec.

Why should I move my operation into Nullsec?

Right now there is a low amount of risk for getting my Highsec/Lowsec goods into Nullsec due to proper scouting and intel combined with a high reward because everything in Nullsec is marked up. Why move?!

Yes there is the topic of nerfing Jump Bridges, Cynosural Generator Array, and Jump Freighters but that will do nothing but drive industry out of Nullsec. Making it more difficult to move items around is not the answer. The main problem is the availability of materials and the lack of industrial infrastructure that Nullsec currently provides.

Moon Source Dependance

In order for me to make a Tech 2 Drone, I need a few moon materials that come from many regions. There is no way that I could get all of the materials from one Nullsec region. What’s the simplest answer? Eve people always go for the simplest answer — get the items from Jita of course! Why would I spent hours getting wild trade routes setup in Nullsec when I can take a freighter to Jita and buy everything that I need en mass?

There will be a huge amount of player uproar if the current distribution of moons is altered. Instead there should be a new method for obtaining moon materials other than POS moon harvesting. Perhaps we can see scannable comets emerge? Perhaps a Tech 2 moon harvesting Noctis hull?

Outposts

I can understand moving research (ME/PE/Copy/Invention) slots to a POS structure, but having manufacturing slots so few and hard to come by in Nullsec impedes industrialists from starting operations.

New players that want to get into manufacturing should be able to spend a few days polishing off skills and have access to slots in Outposts. This reduces the barrier of entry and keeps POS permissions and corp politics out of the arena.

Why would I fight with other people in a Outpost for use of the 10 available slots when in empire I can have access to 50+ in one system? When I do a Carrier build, I get all three characters on the job and I have 30 capital parts building at once. Adding a 3x or more time multiplier on my overall job doesn’t encourage me to move my operations to Nullsec.

Players should have access to cheaper, more robust upgrades for Outposts and be able to have multiple Outposts in systems. If you truly want to make a home capital system in the sky, then we should be able to have the ability to construct facilities that rival Empire systems. This is how Dominion could have created some really valuable territory that people would like to own. Imagine how encouraging it would be to solicit to an Industrial corp to join your Alliance if you controlled a system with six outposts dedicated to manufacturing. Imagine how attractive it would be for a foreign power to take that away from you!

Lowend Ores

The amount of Lowend minerals (Tritanium, Pyerite, Mexallon) is very unbalanced. Making Capital ships requires a huge amount of lowends and the small sized in the belts is not enough to meet the demand. The current method for building a large amount of ships or Capitals is to mine the Highends, compress and ship the off to Jita, buy high compression ratio items/minerals, bring back to your production area and manufacture.

Industry Index

Currently it is too difficult to keep the Industry Index at 4 or 5 compared to the Military Index. Make it easier to maintain and spawn better sites at high levels.

Time-based Disruptions

Increasing the amount of HP on a structure rather than going with the time-based model of taking structures will only encouraging more blobbing. Any new method for taking sov or disabling station services should be timer based.

Nerf the Logistics!

Nullsec logistics is already hard enough if you are far away from Empire. Jump bridges and Cynosural Generators perform well. If any change to Logistics is to be made, increase the consumption of Isotopes or Liquid Oxygen.

Market PVP

One of the popular items that I sell has been slowly dropping in price due to an influx of new traders. The Jita average is about 58-59 M. Over the week, the price slowly fell below Jita prices to around 57 M.

Buyout time! I dropped 619 M and bought up the stock that was below Jita prices and reset the price to 65 M.

I’m making about 8 M per unit so I expect about 88 M of profit for all of the units. My advice to traders is to not be afraid to sink money into an item and reset the price. If there is sufficient movement, do it.

Welcome Back to Null

So we left WI when they went the goon way, and went to highsec. I had a modest stockpile of isk left over from various rat-related things, so I bought two covetors and multiboxed in a belt with a friend of mine hauling. After a few hours of this I refine it at station, haul it to jita and split the profits with my friend 50-50 because hey, he’s new.

Ten. Fucking. Mil.

TEN FUCKING MIL.

For two hours of goddamn mining. I realize that readers of this blog and/or russian mining bots mine in highsec all day and love every moment of it, but FUCK, that is the second worst use of my Eve time, the worst of which being arguing in public channels.

So me and the rest of the corp said “fuck that shit”, a few…bodies later and we’re in Imperial 0rder. Yes, that’s a zero. No, I don’t want to talk about it. We’re currently down in Omst, and if you’ve never heard of that region, there’s a good reason and here it is:

So, ass end of nowhere and very little to speak of a JB map. Screw it, I grab my orca (Lebius II, Lebius I being lost to russians who fleetwarped me into a gang one sleepy morning) and prepare to jump all the way down there, starting from the staging system keb….keber…kebi… kibbers. Yeah, that sounds right. I manage to get all my assets shoved into the orca, all the alts down to Kibbers hours before we get into the alliance and the wardec that they mentioned but we forgot goes live.

I’m sitting around arguing in public channels when suddenly, alliance chat. We say hi, then our CEO says in corp “get yer asses to hek, we’ve got a wormhole from there straight to Omst.”

So, about eighteen jumps. Through Amarr. And a wardec just went live.

If any wartarget alts watched an orca being scouted by three pods through highsec space, they made no comment.

So, mining, in nullsec, yay, it’s more profitable, still boring tho. Until a red appears in system.

OH NO!

Oh wait, he’s in station. Apparently this space was taken by us from Russians a while back.

It’s worth noting at this point I have no idea how much this stuff is worth, except that the scorch Ls are 30 mil total, the halo alpha is about 50 and the halo beta is 60, along with the fifty or so t2 items that should be about a mil each.

I put in 200, he accepts trade and leaves. Says this in local:

If anyone reading this is in I0 or any of our allies and we have a “no buying shit from russians trapped in station” then I’m really, really sorry.

I take half the stuff and reprocess it with perfect skills, comes out to mostly trit, pyerite and mex. Contract it to our resident carrier builder, BAMN 500 mil.

I take the other half of stuff, including 200 Quad lif fueled booster rockets, and shove it in my viator, start taking the route back to empire for better prices.
(again to any I0 leadership, I put some of the stuff up on local markets for a very small markup over jita price, don’t be mad)

Pipe is nice and empty up until a regional gate, which has 5-6 neuts in local. I suspect a camp, but the gate I need to go through is too far away from any of the damn celestials for me to ping it on the directional.

So I start up minecraft, which is going well. I made a cave!

I tab back after a while and oh hey, Raath’s in local. We wave in another channel, and he asks me the gate status. We compare options and ships, as he’s in an executioner and I’m in a viator. We bounce various ideas back and fourth, and at some point I warp to him at a safespot. I tab back to minecraft and make the cave a little bigger. Tab back, and he’s talking again about how he warped to gate at 100km, got killed but didn’t get stuck in a bubble so I should be fine.

Sweetness, I warp to gate at 100km cloaked so I can get some safes up while cloaked.

Let me say that again.

I warp. To the gate. From the same safespot Raath warped from. At the same range. Knowing he had been killed.

I land on the gate and instantly get decloaked by Raath’s frozen corpse. Two dramiels 60km away from me. My viator makes the sharpest 180 degree turn I’ve ever done and I somehow manage to get away.

Unfortunately, I am now still in the system with the gate I need to go through still camped, probably going to be bubbled on the vector I just warped in on. Thinking quickly, I eject from the viator and warp to the gate in my pod at 100km, BM my landing point, bug out again, get back into the viator.

I warp to the new BM at 100km, and don’t get stuck in a bubble, manage to keep cloak. I slowboat about to the top of the gate and trade my safe warpin to a blue in exchange for intel on the other side of the gate, clear.

Warp to, Jump through, no longer feelin blue, rest of the way to jita goes well and I put up sell orders. ANOTHER 500 mil.

At this point I go to bed.

Oh wait, I’m not a reasonable person, so what if it’s four in the morning, I can stay up all night!

So I buy a Tengu, get it all the way to Omnst, fall asleep while belt ratting and lose the fucking tengu. I wish I was fucking joking. Still, 200 mil profit, worth it.

So, since I seem to consistently have horrible, horrible subcap losses, I’m going to get me some capitals! what could go wrong?

Expansion Wishlist

1. Undockable Capital Ships (Supercarriers, Titans) Need Upkeep

Consume fuel such Coolant, Enriched Uranium, Racial Isotopes, Mechanical Parts, Oxygen, Robotics.

These ships are huge and don’t dock. How are they so self-sustaining? If you expand this idea, perhaps even require some Water and Foodstuffs for them to run.

I also think it would be neat if they needed to be stocked with crew such as Civilians, Slaves (Amarr), Janitors, and Marines.

2. Subsystem Targeting for Capitals

Creating the ability to disable a specific gun, module, or Jump Drive on capitals would change combat.

3. Supercarrier Fighter and Fighter Bomber Only Bay

4. Anti-Fighter/Bomber Capital Class Ship

Smaller than a Carrier/Dread ship that can go into Siege and get a bonus for taking out Fighter/Bombers.

5. Multistation Nullsec Outposts

We’ve been asking for this one for a while and I can’t imagine the change would be all that hard. Right now if you want to have industry in nullsec, you need to put up a few Stations across the constellation. If you could concentrate services into one system, I feel that you could really create a seance of a “home system” for industrial operations.

6. Player Destructible Outposts

Perhaps an additional timer after you have destroyed all the station services?

7. Reduce % of ABC Ores in Highsec Accessable Wormholes

Having lived in wormhole space for over 6 months I can tell you that getting items in and out is a logistical challenge. I don’t think that ABC ores should be entirely removed from lower class wormholes such as C1-C3s, but rather that their amount reduced.

8. Officer, Deadspace, and Faction Mods on the Market

I loved that Pirate and Navy ships have been added to the Market. I would like to see the other modules added.

9. Tactical Overlay for Optimal and Falloff

There should be a type of indicator added to the Tactical Overlay that shows additional information such as your optimal and falloff.
